What is NaNoWriMo?

"National Novel Writing Month (NaNoWriMo) is a fun, empowering approach to creative writing. The challenge: draft an entire novel in just one month. Why do it? For 30 wild, exciting, surprising days, you get to lock away your inner editor, let your imagination take over, and just create!" (Source: NaNoWriMo)

How can I participate in NaNoWriMo with other TVHS students?

You can participate in the Young Writers Program! For the Young Writers Program, you can set a personal writing goal to motivate yourself to write more in November! The website helps you track your word count and gives you awards for completing various milestones in your writing journey. It also has writing prompts and ways to interact with and encourage your fellow TVHS writers. If you'd like to join us, create an account on the NaNoWriMo Young Writers Program website (yellow link on this page) then join our TVHS group. The classroom code can be found in your grade-level Google Classroom.

Do I have to write a novel?

Nope! You can use NaNoWriMo to work towards any writing goal! Short stories, poetry, nonfiction, scripts, college essays, fan fiction, revising old work, etc. are all fair game.

How will the Library support me in this writing adventure?

We'll host a few "Write Ins" in the Library to give you a quiet space to write. It's very motivating being in a room of people all focused on writing! Additionally, the Library has writing books available to read and check out, as well as a variety of spaces to write. We have lap desks if you want to get cozy on the couch to scribble some words, table space to spread out your notes, and two study rooms.

Do I need to do anything before November 1 to prepare?

It's up to you! Some people like to do a lot of planning before to help the words flow once November hits: outlining your plot, fleshing out characters, scheduling blocks of time to write, etc. Some people prefer to wing it! I would encourage you to think about setting a good goal for yourself before November 1, but even that is flexible!
